I don't live in a metropolitan area, and my Internet options are limited to dialup and very slow DSL/cable. Is dishNET Satellite a good solution for me?
YES, dishNET Satellite was specifically designed for under-served locations without access to high-speed Internet. If you live in rural areas or even recentlyconstructed home developments, dishNET Satellite provides Internet access that is up to 150 times faster than dial-up access.
The Internet provider at my current location is cable/fiber (FiOS, U-Verse, Comcast, Time Warner, Charter, Cox, AT&T or Verizon). Is dishNET Satellite a good solution for me?
NO, As a satellite-based service, dishNET Satellite has monthly data allowance limits which are much lower than cable and fiber-based Internet providers. Additionally, with satellite-based systems signal latency (delay) occurs, which may negatively affect some activities such as realtime gaming and VoIP.
I enjoy watching TV shows and movies online. Is dishNET Satellite a good solution for me?
NO, While dishNET Satellite will support video streaming, it is best to limit these activities to short video clips like those found on YouTube® or rich content sites operated by ESPN, CNN, and the like. Streaming video uses a large amount of data. If you use dishNET Satellite to stream video from services like Netflix® or Hulu® you will quickly consume your monthly data allowance, resulting in your speed being reduced to approximately 128 Kbps.
I like playing Halo® and Call of Duty® online. Can I play online quick reaction games like those with dishNET Satellite?
NO, Due to the latency that occurs as the signal travels to and from the satellite, real-time gaming of any kind is not recommended. Many of these games also send and receive large amounts of data, quickly consuming your monthly data allowance.
I live in an apartment building. Is dishNET Satellite a good solution for me?
NO, dishNET Satellite is not a good solution for apartments because it requires its own satellite dish. Many complexes have a 'one dish' policy. Even where multiple dishes would be allowed, the installation of a second dish can create mounting and grounding issues.
Does dishNET Satellite offer telephone services (VoIP)?
NO, DISH does not currently offer a VoIP solution with dishNET Satellite. While most offthe-shelf VoIP services (e.g., Vonage, Ooma, Facetime, etc.) will work with dishNET Satellite, the latency that results from the signal traveling to and from the satellite results in a slight delay in communications that is noticeable and may result in unacceptable call quality. As a result, customers may be dissatisfied with their service. For this reason, DISH does not recommend use of an off-the-shelf VoIP service with dishNET Satellite and cannot provide customer support to enable these services.
I work from home. Can I run a VPN with dishNET Satellite?
NO, dishNET Satellite will not typically support a VPN.
Does dishNET Satellite support static IP addresses?
NO, Static IP addresses are not available with dishNET Satellite service.
If I'm a Pay-In-Advance customer (Flex24, FlexTV), can I add dishNET Satellite?
NO, Pay-In-Advance accounts are not eligible for dishNET Satellite service.
Is dishNET recommended for use with a remotely-monitored home security system?
NO, Many remotely-monitored home security systems require a static IP address and/or a VPN. As dishNET does not support either of these, it is not recommended for use with these systems. Additionally, system latency can trigger false alarms. Finally, security systems with live video streams accessed via the Internet use a great deal of data and can cause customers to quickly exhaust their monthly data allowance.
Does DISH charge any equipment lease fees in addition to the monthly service cost?
YES, There is a required $10 monthly lease fee for the equipment required to receive dishNET Satellite service. However, if you bundle your dishNET Satellite service with a qualified DISH television account (new or existing), you will receive a $10 monthly discount.
Is there a term commitment when I sign up for dishNET Satellite?
YES, There is a 24-month commitment on all dishNET Satellite plans. This obligation, its terms and conditions, are in addition to, and separate from, any existing DISH television commitment.
Does DISH charge early termination fees if I violate my term commitment?
YES, If you break your commitment prior to the end of your 24-month term, you will be charged an early termination fee of $17.50 for each month remaining in your commitment. Disconnection for any reason, including relocation (where your service is disconnected), triggers these charges.
Is there always an Activation Fee when I sign up for dishNET Satellite?
NO, Whether an activation fee is charged depends on a subscriber's credit and geographic location. An activation fee of up to $299 may be applicable.
Do I receive any discounts for bundling DISH video and dishNET Satellite Internet service?
YES, New and existing customers who bundle qualifying DISH video services with dishNET Satellite Internet receive an automatic bundle discount of $10 per month for as long as both services are kept active.
Is a credit check conducted when I order dishNET Satellite?
YES, If you subscribe to dishNET Satellite as a standalone service, a credit check is required and you must also provide a nationally recognized credit or debit card (pre-paid debit cards are NOT accepted). If you are purchasing both DISH television service and dishNET Satellite Internet service, a single credit check determines your eligibility for both services. You must provide a nationally recognized credit or debit card (pre-paid debit cards are NOT accepted) against which a $1 hold is placed to verify the authenticity of the card. The $1 hold is released within 3 to 4 business days. For certain credit-qualified customers, alternatives to the credit card requirement may be available.
Does dishNET Satellite offer any satisfaction guarantee or thirty (30) day trial to customers?
NO, dishNET Satellite does not offer a thirty (30) day satisfaction guarantee. A 24-month term commitment is required for all dishNET Satellite plans.
Are any non-returned equipment fees applicable to the dishNET Satellite equipment?
YES, A customer who disconnects for any reason is automatically charged $198: $99 for the TRIA (outdoor Transmit Receive Integrated unit) and $99 for the modem. These charges are reversed when the equipment is returned to DISH. DISH will send shipping boxes to you in order to help facilitate the return of equipment. You will be responsible for return shipping costs.
If I relocate, can I move my dishNET Satellite service with me?
YES,One call to our customer service line can schedule an appointment to move your dishNET Satellite services. Qualified customers can receive a discount on the moving fee. Since download speeds and data allowance vary based by location, the packages available and speed of your service may change at your new residence. dishNET Satellite service may not be available in all areas.
Can I pause or suspend my dishNET Satellite service?
NO, DISH Pause cannot be used with dishNET Satellite Internet. DISH television service can go on pause, but dishNET Satellite service will still be active.
Are there copies of the fair access and acceptable use policies for dishNET Satellite that I can read?
YES, Fair Access and Acceptable Use policies are available for you to read at www.dish.com/legal.
Can I subscribe to dishNET Satellite only?
YES, While a customer can subscribe to dishNET Satellite only, if customers bundle their dishNET High-speed Internet with qualifying DISH video, monthly discounts are available.
If I order both DISH video and dishNET Satellite, will I be subject to two credit checks?
NO, Only one credit check is needed to determine your eligibility for both services.
Do I have unlimited Internet access with dishNET Satellite?
NO, As a satellite-based Internet system, dishNET Satellite comes with monthly data allowances in three different amounts: 5GB, 10GB, and 15GB of Anytime use data, plus an equal amount of Off-Peak Bonus data allowance. Each package is divided into two equal data portions: Anytime data and Off-Peak Bonus data. Off-Peak Bonus data is available from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. When you have used all of your monthly data allowance, your download speed will be reduced to approximately 128 Kbps. Since the typical U.S. household uses around 20GB of data monthly, the middle and upper packages are the best solution for the average home.
Can I purchase additional data?
YES, You can add additional data allowance in 1GB increments for $10 each. The additional data expires at the end of your regular billing cycle for that month—it does not roll over to the next month. If you are often purchasing additional data, it may be to your advantage to upgrade your service plan.
Can I monitor my data usage?
YES, Customers are encouraged to check their data usage often by visiting www.mydish.com. After logging in to your account, select the 'My Broadband' tab to see your usage. Data measurements are not real-time, but are updated at regular intervals. You will not receive notification when you have exceeded your monthly allotment.
Can Anytime data be used anytime?
YES, Your Anytime data is used anytime you access the Internet, unless it is during off-peak hours (2 a.m. to 8 a.m.). During this off-peak time you are given additional bonus data equal to the amount of your Anytime data. Once you have used up your Off-Peak Bonus data, your Internet usage between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. will count against your Anytime data allowance.
Can Off-Peak Bonus data be used anytime?
NO, Your Off-Peak Bonus data is only available between the hours of 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Your amount of Off-Peak Bonus data is equal to your Anytime data allowance. Once you've used all of your Off-Peak Bonus data, you will begin using your Anytime data allowance during this time period.
If I purchase additional data, can I choose which data portion it is added to?
NO, All additional data purchased is added to your Anytime data allowance.
Instead of purchasing additional data when I reach my data cap, can I upgrade my service?
YES, You are able to upgrade your service as long as a higher package is available. Monthly charges will be pro-rated to reflect this upgrade.
Does uploading count toward the monthly data limit?
YES, Uploading still requires data transmission over the network and is applied towards your monthly data allowance.
Do I receive any discounts for bundling DISH video and dishNET Satellite Internet service?
YES, New and existing customers who subscribe to qualifying DISH television packages (America's Top 120 or higher, DishLATINO Clasico or higher, or DISH America) will receive an automatic bundle discount of $10 per month for as long as both services are kept active.
Am I automatically billed for overage charges when I reach my data allowance?
NO, There is no charge for exceeding your monthly data allowance. However, when you reach your cap your speed will drop to approximately 128 Kbps. At the start of the next billing cycle, you will be returned to full speed. You can purchase additional data or upgrade your package at any time if you find your data allowance to be insufficient.
I'm a current DISH television subscriber. Am I still eligible for the $10 bundle discount?
YES, DISH television customers who subscribe to a core programming package of the America's Top 120 or higher, DishLATINO Clásico or higher, or DISH America or higher are eligible for the bundle discount. Other core programming packages are not eligible.
I've already scheduled a DISH television installation and I now want to add dishNET Satellite before my installation. Can I still receive the bundle discount?
YES, Provided you subscribe to the required minimum qualifying programming and meet eligibility requirements, dishNET Satellite can be added to your account anytime—pre or post-installation—and you will receive the bundle discount. If you add dishNET Satellite prior to your installation, it may be necessary to reschedule your installation to allow for the additional time needed to complete a dishNET Satellite installation.
I'm a current DISH television subscriber with International Programming. Can I still receive the bundle discount?
NO, International core programming (International Basic and Chinese Basic) does not qualify for the bundle discount. To receive the bundle discount you must subscribe to a core programming package of the America's Top 120 or higher, DishLATINO Clásico or higher, or DISH America or higher. International programming can then be added to any of these core packages.
Are there any circumstances under which the $10 monthly modem lease fee is waived?
NO, The modem lease fee is required and cannot be waived.
I'm a current WildBlue customer. Am I eligible for new dishNET Satellite promotions and the bundled discount?
YES, Provided you meet the eligibility requirements, dishNET Satellite service is available in your area, and you subscribe to an eligible DISH television programming package (America's Top 120 or higher, DishLATINO Clásico or higher, or DISH America), you will be eligible for the bundle discount.
Is there tax on dishNET Satellite service?
YES, The tax on your account will vary by state and location.
Are dishNET Satellite modems Wi-Fi enabled?
NO, dishNET Satellite modems are not Wi-Fi enabled and do not have a built-in router. For just $99, you can purchase a Wi-Fi router from DISH and have a home network installed. The price includes the cost of the equipment, installation, and the set-up of a password-protected home wireless network on up to four (4) devices.
Can I use the wireless router that I already have?
YES, In most cases, dishNET Satellite modems work with wireless routers. To ensure compatibility, DISH offers the sale and installation of a compatible wireless router, along with the setup of a password-protected home wireless network and connection of up to four devices, for just $99. As there are many routers on the market, an exhaustive compatibility list is not possible and DISH cannot guarantee that your router will work with the dishNET Satellite modem.
Does a dishNET Satellite installation take about the same time as a DISH video installation?
YES, A standard dishNET Satellite installation can take up to four hours to complete. This includes the installation of a specialized and separate dishNET satellite dish, equipment, and the required wiring.
Can I buy my equipment instead of leasing it?
NO, Currently, dishNET Satellite does not offer an equipment purchase option. Satellite compatible modems are not typically available in consumer electronic stores.
Can I install dishNET Satellite myself?
NO, dishNET Satellite uses advanced and highly-technical equipment, requiring that a specially trained technician install the service.
If I have DISH video service and dishNET Satellite Internet, do I have to have two separate dishes?
YES, The satellites used for dishNET Satellite and those used for DISH video service are located in different orbital locations, requiring two separate dishes to be pointed in each direction.
Are there limits on dishNET Satellite availability?
YES, Although dishNET Satellite is available in most areas (not available in Puerto Rico and limited areas of Alaska), the service is subject to (i) credit qualification as established by DISH; (ii) agreement to and compliance with all terms and conditions of the customer agreement; (iii) compliance with all policies applicable to the service such as, but not limited to, the fair access and acceptable use policies; (iv) a clear, unobstructed view of the Southern sky; and (v) availability of bandwidth on the satellite covering your service area. In some areas, dishNET Satellite is only available through local retailers. The availability of specific speeds and data plans varies based on geographic location.
Will dishNET Satellite work when it's raining?
YES, Typically, dishNET Satellite is no more sensitive to rain than any other satellite service. However, dishNET Satellite ground stations are often located hundreds or thousands of miles from your home. Therefore, a strong storm in the location of a dishNET Satellite ground station may disrupt service just as a strong storm directly over your home may disrupt service. Usually, these disruptions are for short periods of time and service will resume as soon as the storm passes.
Is dishNET Satellite service available in Hawaii?
YES, dishNET Satellite is available throughout the Hawaiian islands.
Is dishNET Satellite service available in Alaska?
YES, dishNET Satellite is available in many parts of Alaska, but may not be available in more remote locations. Call a dishNET Satellite specialist at 1.888.656.2461 to see if you qualify.
